You may know him as “the bald guy in the YouTube videos” or the voice behind the phone answering all of your tech support questions. Mark Graham is the Sales/Engineering Manager here at Grilla Grills. We sat down with Mark to learn a little bit more about him.
1. Where is your hometown?
2. Tell us about how you came to Grilla Grills.
After serving 11 years in the Air Force, I came home to and began working as an engineer for a family-owned manufacturing company that specializes in automotive stamping. A team and I started developing a wood pellet furnace. When it hit the market, we traveled the country going to different shows selling our product. At these shows we would see wood pellet grills and thought that there might be an opportunity to expand our business and provide customers more value than what was being offered at the time. We started building pellet grill concepts, and eventually came out with the Grilla Grill. And here we are today!
3. What do you enjoy most about your job?
I really enjoy interacting with our customers. It’s a fun market to be in, because it’s all about cooking food and having fun with friends and family. Customers will call in and email me all the with stories about how great the food they cooked was, or how much fun they had eating with their friends and family. It’s a lot different than the automotive world, no one would call back saying how much they love their new part for their car. It’s fun to provide a product that impacts peoples lives at home on a daily basis. That’s really awesome for me.
4. What are you doing when you’re not at work?
Hanging out with my family. My 15 year old daughter keeps me busy! I enjoy boating in the summer and getting some exercise in when I can.
5. Where is your favorite place to visit?
Anywhere warm! Michigan winters are brutal. Get me anywhere down south in the sunshine and I’m good to go.
6. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
My military experience taught me this KISS method ….Keep It Simple, Stupid. We all get caught up with big dreams and ideas but when it comes down to it, sometimes you just gotta keep it simple. This concept has somewhat translated into our grill design. We’re really just aiming to create a simple, quality product that will be easy to use for our customers.
7. What is your favorite thing to grill?
Ribs. Hands down. I usually just throw them on the Silverbac at 275 degrees for 4 hours. I don’t do the fancy 3-2-1 method. Just coat them with a little bit of oil and AP Rub and throw them on the grill. Super easy.
8. Grilla, Silverbac, or Kong?
Grilla ….but I might be a bit partial to that because it was our first design. They’re all great grills.
9. Is a hotdog a sandwich?
Uhhh, not in my book.
10. If you had a pet gorilla, what would you name it?
Charlie. I have no idea why. But I’d name him Charlie.
