Grilla Grills A.P. Texas Style BBQ Sauce
This sauce is bold, spicy, and has a nice hint of smoke; in other words, it’s Texas in a nutshell. This sauce is extremely easy to make and can be used on many things from chicken wings to beef ribs. The sauce itself does not reflect one singular place in Texas, but it does represent the state’s love of BBQ with its tomato base and strong use of lemon juice and vinegar.
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 small white onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1/8 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- Kosher salt, to taste
- Ground black pepper, to taste
1.) Put all ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a gentle boil; whisking constantly.
2.) Reduce the heat to a simmer and let cook for 20-30 minutes; stirring frequently, to avoid burning the sugars.
3.) Take off the heat and let come to room temperature. Once cooled, the sauce is ready to be eaten right away, or can be stored for up to one month in the frig.
