Grilla Pit Beans: Baked Beans On The Grill
If only we could go back in time and shake the hands of the cook who first discovered that you could make beans better by adding ingredients like pork fat, molasses, brown sugar and spices. By slow cooking the beans with all those ingredients, you change the overall bean flavor for the better. No tailgate or picnic should be without beans, and we believe that smoked baked beans are the way to go!
Easy Smoked Baked Beans Recipe for a Smoker
Because this recipe starts with you buying your favorite canned baked beans, you can easily whip up this side dish even if you only have a few minutes to throw it together. However, if you are a traditionalist who likes to start at the very beginning, feel free to make your own “starter” baked beans. That way, you can substitute them instead of the canned variety.
Ingredients
- 4 cans Bush’s Baked Beans (Original preferred but you can choose whichever one you prefer)
- ½ red onion, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 clove of garlic, diced
- ¾ C brown sugar
- 1 C Grilla BBQ Sauce
- ¼ C yellow mustard
- ¼ C Grilla AP Rub
Directions
Preheat Grilla or Silverbac to 225 degrees, you just need to heat these through and you want as much smoke as possible. Mix all ingredients together and place on smoker for at least 1.5 hours.
At this point, the beans are technically done—you will see a bit of film formed on the top of the mixture, which is all smoke. If you want your beans smokier, stir them and let them go another 45 minutes.
If you are happy with them you can put a foil lid on the beans and keep them warm in the smoker or oven until you are ready for them.

Altering the Smoked Baked Beans Recipe
Feel free to experiment with our pellet grill baked beans recipe by switching up the ingredients. A great inclusion can be some veggies, just to give them a bit of higher nutritional value. If you have some spare brisket, pulled pork or even smoked chicken, they will go great in the beans as well. Try adding some apple or pear chunks near the end for added sweetness.
