This old school drink dates all the way back to the second century when Romans would drink hot spiced wine to protect themselves from the cold. Comprised of heavy head spices , sweet honey, and a dash of brandy, this drink is bound to keep you warm on a cold night! ENJOY!
- 1 bottle of dry dry red wine (750 mL)
- 1 orange cut into rounds (plus extra for garnish)
- 6 whole cloves
- 3 cinnamon sticks (plus extra for garnish)
- 3 pieces of star anise
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/2 cup brandy
In a large sauce pan, combine all of the ingredients and bring to a simmer; do NOT boil.
Let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes, or until the honey dissolves.
Remove from heat, pour into glasses, and garnish with the extra orange rounds and cinnamon.
