This cocktail takes you right to heart of New Orleans and represents the birth of the American cocktail, as we know it. Deemed “America’s first cocktail” the Sazerac is a unique blend of rye whiskey, sugar, bitters, and lemon. This drink will knock you off of your feet on Bourbon street, but it’s damn tasty!
- 2oz rye whiskey
- 1/2oz simple syrup
- 1/2oz absinth (Pernod or Ricard will work here)
- 7 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
- Lemon peel
1.) Fill a rocks glass with ice and pour in the absinth. Fill the rest of the glass with water and set aside.
2.) In a mixing glass combine the rye, simple syrup and 7 dashes of bitters.
3.) Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir vigorously for AT LEAST one minute.
4.) Dump out the contents of of the rocks glass and yell, “SAZERAC”!!!!
5.) Strain the whiskey mixture from the mixing glass into the empty, yet seasoned, rocks glass.
6.) Squeeze the lemon peel into the drink and drop in for a garnish and you are ready to rock and roll!
